Love this. In DC, we need to move beyond Open Streets a few times a year. As Diana says, "Pilots aren't Policy". The benefits of permanent pedestrianization are substantial. With AVs coming to more cities, we shouldn't squander the opportunity. I do worry about misguided efforts to redesign spaces specifically for AVs, but if PUDO zones supporting more vibrant spaces for people, then it's a worthwhile tradeoff!

Totally, I agree that I'm very wary about the upside of AVs in our cities. But if we can use them to rethink the amount of space we give to private cars, especially in our most prime areas, then I am happy they could spark that conversation.
