Last week I announced my first event for subscribers! During the first week of October, about a dozen of us will go on a tour of the site of the forthcoming 11th Street Bridge Park with Director Scott Kratz, followed by a group dinner afterwards. If you didn’t get the invite, you’re not a paid subscriber – subscribe today to participate in this event and others like it in the future! I’d love for you to join us!

11th Street Bridge Park as it will look a few years from now

What cities are doing interesting work or have forward-thinking mayors? This question drives my work and my urbanism habit. But I often hear about the same cities: Barcelona, Bogota, Copenhagen, Mexico City, New York, Paris, Stockholm, and Vienna, to name a few.

Today I’ll update you on five cities that I started following and why:

  • A North American city with a promising model for converting vacant office buildings

  • An Eastern European city with a dynamic architect mayor who is reinventing the city’s design and family-friendliness

  • An Asian megacity that offers an exciting alternative to the 15-minute city narrative

  • A city that is challenging London to be the cultural capital of the U.K.

  • An African city reinventing itself through pedestrianization and 15,000 acres of public land for housing, and a growing tech sector, too.
